Preparing the wooden cabinet

Away with the vinyl

Gluing the delaminated veneer, I'm a bit short of clamps :-)

The sides are bad with many scratches and holes.
I hate this job, the garage is contaminated with filler dust everywhere!

Painted and ready for new veneer or maby it will be vinyl?
Havn't decided yet what to put on the wooden sides.

My wife hade some glossy gold/copper colored thin cloth.
This will be nice behind the frame/speakers grid.

I have started to assemble the cabinet, here is the painted air vent on the underside.

Casters and cover, now is all rust removed and I sprayed the cover with silver color.

Caster refurbish

The caster center bolt had to be drilled away, and I had to hammer out the rest.

To get rid of the rust I tryed vinegar & baking soda, the result was quite ok.

After brushing & polish the casters looks great.

Disassembling the Rockola

Today I disassembled the Rock Ola into hundred small parts!
I will start with the cabinet. The bottom metal frames are in a bad shape, rusty and warped, the casters looks like s**t.
The plywood is worn and have delaminated everywhere, the vinyl foil on the sides must be removed and replaced.
Almost all screws are rusty and a bunch of them snapped off as I tryed to get them out :-(
So I’m heading a massive work before I even can start refurbish the record player parts.

The cabinet totally stripped from parts

I was hoping the woofers was ok, unfortunally one had a long thin hairline crack from the center out to the frame, not good at all. Behind is the record magazin/player

Hundreds of parts, the casters at the lower right!

Warped & rusty bottom frame

Pioneer SX-424

Meanwhile waiting for inspiration I found a vintage Pioneer SX-424 receiver on Tradera and two speakers on Shpock (a bargain). I just have to buy the stuff. So now i have better sound quality then I ever had in my life. The base tone in the reciever/speakers is just stunning! A little polish and new blue LED lamps will make it!
This will definitly make my garage shine a little bit more!

"People tend to focus on the big, powerful receivers when looking at vintage stereos.  Some just want a well performing, small, affordable stereo. Well, the Pioneer SX-424 is just that.

Pioneer introduced it in the early 1970's - probably sometime around late 1971.
The SX-424 model were essentially the bottom of the performance line for Pioneer.
Still, these little receivers do a good job and fulfill their purpose admirably. In fact, calling it the bottom of the line is overly harsh. Those receivers were definitely inferior to the entry level Pioneer models.
The SX-424 does not pump out massive power. But, the 13 watts it does put out are solid and will drive most speakers. It has a pretty decent tuner as well as phono section."

Leitz Wirebind 300

Not exactly jukebox stuff....

Found an almost new punching and binding machine on Shpock (digital local fleamarket) for 600 SEK (a bargin), this is a must have for making nice manuals and other cool bindings.
Now I can make a nice binding of the restoration.

Checking amplifier & power supply Tubes

I got a lot of tubes but I have no clue if they are ok or not.
At facebook I found a guy here in Stockholm that have a vintage valve tester and for a decent sum was able to test all my valves.
My Wurlitzer 2310 tubes was checked at the same time, and also some other tubes that I have.
Here is the result:

Two amplifiers found at a flea market

Recently someone sent me a couple of SMS photos of two Rock Ola amplifiers (one of them looked exactly as the rusty amp sitting in my 1458) in northen Sweden.
The amp's was for sale on a flee market for a decent price.
There was no information at all about the two amp's, but as said before the price was right and I took a chanse.......Well I think it was a great buy and both of the amp's looks really good.

Ohh, I almost forgot, it was a power supply also in the kit. Some Bubba/McGyver have got his fingers on the ps and made some "improvments" but overall it looked great.
I assume this power supply runs on 110V, not on 230V so I cant test the amplifiers.

Rechroming

The chrome was of course in a bad shape after many years in a barn.
I knew this would take a long time so the first thing I did was to strip the chassie from all chrome parts. I sent all parts to Belgium for rechroming in april 2016.

If someone told me at the time I sent the parts to Belgium that this process will take 13 month I would have sent the parts somewhere else!
But finely I got all parts back in june 2017 and the chrome work was great.

My first post......

Ok here it is on it way home (april 2016) to my garage where it will stay until I'm finished.
The seller cleans the wreck, with limited success, it didn't look better at all:-)

Got the BADGE !!!!

Finely after three years searching everywhere for the grille Badge, I saw on facebook marketplace that  Michael  R in US parted out an RO 1...
